Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV)

Plug-in hybrid vehicles are simple! Just like hybrid electric vehicles, they’re equipped with both a gas engine and electric motors, and they automatically switch from electric to gas or a combination of the two.

More range and less emissions. What are you waiting for?

Learn more about plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The best of both worlds

With two sources of energy, plug-in hybrid vehicles allow you to go further than a battery electric vehicle—without having to worry about range. The combination of gas engine and electric motor, which work together or alternately, will give you peace of mind on the road. With a high-powered battery (better than those usually found in hybrid electric vehicles) that charges up partially thanks to regenerative braking, among other things, you can drive for longer and lower your carbon emissions.

Charging up couldn’t be simpler

To charge up this type of hybrid vehicle, simply plug it into an outlet or charging station. The amount of time it takes depends on whether you’re using charging level 1 or 2.

How much can a plug-in hybrid vehicle save you on gas?

Take the test

A powerful drive

The electric motor provides immediate propulsion, which means instant acceleration. And the vehicle automatically switches between gas and electric to enhance the performance in all driving conditions.

Some Toyota plug-in hybrid electric vehicles are even available with electronic all-wheel drive so you can navigate with even more confidence, no matter the weather.

No additional maintenance needed

Our plug-in hybrid vehicles have the same maintenance schedule as conventional gas-powered vehicles. That’s because they’re built with the same care and attention to detail you expect from Toyota.
